The South Bend Cubs powered past the Dayton Dragons, 9-1, at Day Air Ballpark. Tim Scoggins provided some of the pop. Knuckles was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The win went to Eric Valdez in relief, making him now 3-0. Javy Chicas took the loss for Dayton. The first-place Cubs, at 61-29, lead the Midwest League Eastern Division by 13½ games.

South Bend needed the clutch hitting of Joe Thompson to seal the deal. The second baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cubs on top, 4-1. For the game, Thompson had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

Dayton manager said his team was "out of sync."
