Red Sox Lasso 8-4 Victory
|
Boston defeated Toronto, 8-4, in large part due to 26-year old designated hitter Josh Goodwin. Goodwin drove in 5 runs. The designated hitter had 1 double and 1 home run for the Red Sox. Dan Woods, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-4. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The win puts the Red Sox at 38-36, while the Blue Jays drop to 45-31.
With Boston leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Goodwin hit a cutter from Nate Hamilton for a grand slam home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Red Sox ahead, 6-1.
"We played hard and won," said Goodwin. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
