White Sox Score Late to Nip Red Sox, 3-2
|
The Chicago White Sox picked up a win at SouthSide, defeating the Boston Red Sox, 3-2, in 11 innings. Starting pitcher Malik Mendez was an essential part of his team's success. Today's win puts Chicago at 31-39, while Boston falls to 36-35.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 11th, 28-year old third baseman Jorge Lopez had a chance to be the hero. Boston pitcher Jerry Arango had other ideas. But with one out, Lopez hit a sacrifice fly. The White Sox had themselves a dramatic win.
"This game will make a man of you," said Ken Hanson, the Chicago skipper, "if it doesn't kill you first."
