Esquivel Homers Twice in 6-3 Hot Rods Win
|
The Bowling Green Hot Rods beat the Quad Cities River Bandits, 6-3, at Bowling Green Ballpark. The win was due in part to first baseman Leo Esquivel, who hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. Jimmy Bergeron, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits, while walking 7 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 2-4. Bowling Green is now 16-42, Quad Cities 44-14.
Tied up with the River Bandits in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Hot Rods got a boost from second baseman Greg Griffey. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Griffey saw a 2-1 fastball from Leo Duran and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Bowling Green on top, 2-1.
Esquivel said his team "played with focus and determination."
