Cubs Win with Late Rally
|
Fans who congregated at Modern Woodmen Park were treated to extra-inning drama.
Getting a good performance from third baseman Dave Dunbar, the South Bend Cubs defeated the Quad Cities River Bandits, 6-5. Dunbar was 4-5 with 4 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Cubs. Sam Hatfield got credit for the save for South Bend. It was his 12th of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Juan Linares came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Quad Cities pitcher Jon Bosch, he hit a first pitch slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting South Bend on top, 5-4.
"Nice win for us," said Linares. "Now we'll go after the next one."
South Bend leads the Midwest League Eastern Division by 5½ games.
