Loons Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel
|
In a tension-filled contest between the Great Lakes Loons and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, pitcher Mike Vanderwall was superb. The Great Lakes left-hander spearheaded his team's 1-0 win. Vanderwall, now 1-2, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing no runs. Emanuel Ortega earned the save, his 1st.
Great Lakes catcher Juan Rosales contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a cutter to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 2nd hit of the season and put the Loons ahead, 1-0.
Said Wisconsin manager : "You just have to tip your cap sometimes."
The loss has the Timber Rattlers at 13-9.
