Cubs Bedevil Timber Rattlers, 5-4
|
Though he had a stellar game, Jamie Winter could not prevent his team, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, from losing, 5-4, to the South Bend Cubs. Winter went 2-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to 21-year old left-handed pitcher Danny Carrion in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Dan Hawkins took the loss. The Cubs, now 14-6, have played inspired baseball.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Tim Scoggins? The 22-year old first baseman Scoggins stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put South Bend up, 5-4. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"Both teams played hard," said South Bend manager .
