Cubs Get Thrilling 3-2 Win
Fans of the South Bend Cubs who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a South Bend win over the visiting Great Lakes Loons, 3-2, in 10 innings. Alex Gomez started for the home team against Alex Romero. Alex Romero earned accolades for his performance.

A crucial at-bat came with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when third baseman Charlie Polen hit a sacrifice fly. The Cubs went on to win.

After the game, Polen refused to speak to a reporter for the South Bend Citizen. "You've accused me of throwing teammates under the bus," he said. "So, excuse me if I decline to answer your questions."
