Yankees Topple Orioles, 6-4
|
The New York Yankees racked up a win at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, bumping off the Baltimore Orioles, 6-4. Gene Gibson, who started for New York, pitched effectively for his team. Gibson, now 4-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. New York, at 30-25, holds down first place in the American League East Division.
Mike Turner was 1 for 4 for New York. The 28-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the top of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Dave Orr. It was his 27th RBI of the season.
"Obviously, you want to go out there and be good every time out," said Gibson. "I take the ball every day with the same mindset."
