The Boston Red Sox in 10 innings downed the Detroit Tigers, 9-6, at Comerica Park. Greg Shively led the way, going 2-for-5 for Boston. Manny Meza earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record is now 3-1. Danny Upchurch closed the game out for Boston, earning his 8th save.

Boston used the timely hitting of A.J. Rowe to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Rowe told a Boston Observer reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."

The Red Sox move to 21-28 with the win, while the Tigers drop to 17-32.
