Stingrays Top Royals in Extras, 6-4
|
The Carolina Stingrays handed the Kansas City Royals a 6-4 defeat in 10 innings at Kauffman Stadium. Right Fielder Jonathan Gerrish starred for Carolina. He was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 doubles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Carolina reliever Eddie Moore was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Carl Thompson took the loss. Juan Alvarez picked up the save for Carolina, his 12th of the year.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Ed Clapp? The 28-year old third baseman Clapp stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put Carolina up, 5-4. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Jonathan leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said Carolina manager Coby Waits.
The Stingrays have now won 4 straight.
