Amarillo pitcher Joe Wirsing did his part in helping his team beat the Springfield Cardinals, 9-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Wirsing got the win, improving to 2-4. He gave up 3 hits and walked 0 over 5.1 innings. He allowed no runs. With the win, the Sod Poodles improved to 42-95.

Amarillo used the stroke of Bobby Jacobson to get the win. The shortstop hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Sod Poodles ahead, 5-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"You come to the ballpark to do your job and that's what I did today," Wirsing told the Amarillo Gazette.
