Pittsburgh pitcher Sherten Gasser did his part in helping his team defeat the New York Mets, 3-2. The opposition could never get too much going against the left-hander. Steve Sandoval picked up his 7th save of the season. The Pirates improved their record to 29-15 by beating New York.

Pittsburgh used a clutch at-bat from Joe Lucas to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Pirates ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"Every time I step on the mound, I want to go out there and compete and bring my best game," said Gasser.
