Multi-HR Day for Donayre as Cardinals Overpower Smokies, 15-9
|
Alex Donayre was the difference-maker for the Springfield Cardinals in what turned into a shootout with the Tennessee Smokies. Donayre went 4-for-5 in the 15-9 Cardinals win. Springfield reliever T.J. Talley picked up the win to move to 2-2. Ian Merritt suffered the loss. The defeat makes Tennessee 44-61.
Elijah Forte, the Springfield second baseman, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 11-9, Cardinals. For the game, Forte went 3 for 5 with 3 singles and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 3.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager .
