Barons Get Past Corpus Christi, 9-8
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Birmingham Barons eventually prevailed.
In a high-scoring game between Birmingham and Corpus Christi, designated hitter Matt Lampkin was a difference-maker. The 25-year-old helped Birmingham grab the 9-8 win. He went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. Caleb Shaffer snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-3 on the season. Chris Maestretti suffered the loss. Jody Fox got the save, the 8th for him this season.
Had Josh Slingerland not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Slingerland hit a 2-run single. That made the score 9-8, in favor of the Barons.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Barons manager . "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The losing streak for Corpus Christi has now reached 6 games.
