In a close game at Canal Park, the Akron RubberDucks edged the Reading Fightin Phils, 4-3. Akron third baseman Alex Cortes stood apart with his performance. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. With the win, Akron is 8-10.

The defining moment came in the bottom of the ninth for Akron. That's when Steve Jackson hit a run-scoring double off fireballing right-hander Mike Platania to win the game. The home crowd went wild.

"That last inning was electric," Jackson said.
