8-2 Triumph Takes Greensboro to 75-35
|
The first-place Greensboro Grasshoppers took on the Delmarva Shorebirds in front of a spirited crowd.
Greensboro pitcher Jose Estrada had a large part in his team subduing the Delmarva Shorebirds, 8-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Greensboro improves to 75-35 with the win. They lead their division by 9½ games.
Dan Trujillo had a big 2-run double for the Grasshoppers in the bottom of the first inning. With Greensboro leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Jake Meltzer and swatted a double to left. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Grasshoppers ahead, 5-0.
"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Estrada. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
