Loss Tarnishes Fine Effort by Hopkins
|
The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers overcame a good performance by Charleston second baseman Tommy Hopkins to knock off Charleston, 9-6, at Atrium Health Ballpark. Hopkins went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Zach Mathis earned save number 5 this season. With the win, Kannapolis goes to 60-41, while the RiverDogs fall to 54-47.
The Cannon Ballers took the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the fourth inning. Facing Charleston hurler Jose Molina with one out, Alex Soto hit a run-scoring single.
Soto called the triumph "a good team win."
