Charleston Triumphs with Late Surge
The Charleston RiverDogs topped the Columbia Fireflies, 5-4, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. Charleston designated hitter David Rivera was a spark plug for the offense. He went 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2. Charleston reliever Devin Hoff was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Dan England. Charleston is now 32-29.

Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 24-year old catcher Jim Bartosch had a chance to be the hero. Columbia pitcher Dan England wanted to foil that plan. But with no outs, Bartosch drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The RiverDogs had themselves a thrilling win.

"Sometimes you get the ball in the right spot and it goes," said Rivera.
