Braves Handle BlueClaws, Nab 5-2 Win
|
The Rome Braves beat the Lakewood BlueClaws by a score of 5-2. Rome catcher Joel Miller deserved the lion's share of the credit. Miller was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Braves. Rome starter Marco Barragan was credited with the win after throwing 86 pitches over 5.2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Jose Espionza collected save number 3.
Mario Perez drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate for Rome. The 21-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Tony Campo. It was his 7th RBI of the season.
"The key is not trying to do too much," said Miller.
Rome now sits at 32-28, while Lakewood falls to 21-39.
