Lakewood beat Charleston at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, escaping with a 6-5 win. The win in large part was due to shortstop Chris Mayer. He was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. Lakewood reliever Joe Bartlett picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Randy Morris took the loss. Joe Armenio closed it out for Lakewood, earning his 7th save.
Had Kevin Bobzin not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Bobzin hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the BlueClaws.
"Feels good to get the job done," Bobzin said after the game.
Lakewood, at 16-32, sits in last place in the South Atlantic League Northern Division.
