#100 for Southorn
Monday, September 4th , 1905
The crowd roared -- they knew they were seeing history -- and John Southorn was delighted, too. The 33-year-old Insulaires first baseman was making history with his 100th career homer. The crowd buzzed and roared again when Southorn stuck his head out of the dugout for a curtain call.
"Never, as a kid, did I ever think I'd hit even one," he told BNN after hitting No. 100 in a 4-1 victory over Sherbrooke. Southorn went 1-for-5 in the game, had 1 RBI, and scored 1 run.
Southorn has put up a career batting average of .242 with 281 hits, 100 homers and 223 RBIs.
