Alvarado Humbles Santiago de Cuba, 1-0
Friday, August 24th , 1906
Germán Alvarado had the Santiago de Cuba Soneros dancing to his tune during a sparkling 1-0 shutout performance for the Camaguey Tinajones. He gave up 7 hits, issued 2 walks and had 3 strikeouts.
Santiago de Cuba hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.
"When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point," opposing manager Hortensio Pérez said. "We just never figured him out."
So far this year, Alvarado has made 10 starts, tossed 76.1 innings, struck out 23 batters and walked 36. His record is 3-2 with a 2.95 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .251 batting average.
