5-Hit Barrage by Cubillos

Nueva Gerona second baseman Juan Cubillos had a day to remember, 5-for-5 against the Bayamo Rafagas at Estadio de Bayamo as the Marmoleros picked up a win, 14-2.
"He was patient up there," Nueva Gerona skipper Julián Maciel told the press after the game. "I like the way he waited for his pitch and wasn't overly aggressive. Cubillos has a tendency to chase bad balls sometimes."
Juan Cubillos singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
This season, Cubillos is batting .291 with 1 home run.

Nueva Gerona Takes Campeonato de las Ligas

The sweet swing of Efraín Lorona has led his team through the Campeonato de las Ligas.
The Nueva Gerona Marmoleros star earned series MVP honors as his club downed the Habana Leones to advance to the Campeonato Nacional de Cuba.
The Marmoleros won the final game at Parque de los Leones by a score of 5-4 and the series 4-2.
"I'm seeing the ball well and happy to contribute to a win," said Lorona. "I hope it continues for the rest of the playoffs."
For the series, Lorona hit .409 with a .409 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 3 runs.
The Nueva Gerona Marmoleros will play against the Bayamo Rafagas in the next round. Bayamo won their series against the Santiago de Cuba Soneros 4 games to 1. The Campeonato Nacional de Cuba schedule will be announced after the Campeonato de las Ligas finishes.
