Pittsburgh Blanks Philadelphia Behind Hawley
Saturday, June 16th , 1906
Pink Hawley dominated the Philadelphia Phillies with a brilliant 4-hit shutout in the 2-0 Pittsburgh Pirates triumph at National League Park 1895-1909. The Pittsburgh hurler fanned 1 and walked 1 in the game and was singled out for praise afterward by the opposing manager.
"He really kept us in check today," Phillies skipper Matthew Goforth said in postgame comments. "Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away. We took some pathetic swings."
For the year, Hawley has compiled a 12-9 record with a 2.38 ERA.
