EL Awards Best Batter Prize to Burkett Monday, May 14th , 1906 A battle-tested Jesse Burkett declared war on opposing pitchers last week, attacking the ball like the well-schooled veteran he is. Today the 33-year-old Philadelphia first baseman collected the Eastern League Player of the Week Award. He wrapped up the week with a .524 average, 11 hits in 21 at-bats, no home runs, 3 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Burkett is hitting .302 this season with no home runs, 13 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has 42 hits in 139 at-bats. |
