Gardner Tosses 1-0 Shutout
Sunday, July 23rd , 1905
Jim Gardner bent a little, but he didn't break against the Cincinnati Reds. The Cleveland Spiders pitcher hurled a 4-hit, 1-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 2 walks and tallying 4 strikeouts.
"Jim is good at getting out of jams," Spiders manager Russ McKelvy told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."
Thus far this season, Gardner has posted a 15-11 record, started 27 games, struck out 99 batters in 218.2 innings and compiled a 2.80 ERA.
