Piatt Baffles Baltimore Batters
Sunday, August 30th , 1903
In an outstanding mound performance, Philadelphia Phillies starter Wiley Piatt fired a complete-game shutout against the Baltimore Orioles at National League Park 1895-1909.
Piatt was the key to the 4-0 Philadelphia win. The 25-year-old left-hander was in high spirits for much of the game, his mood largely unfazed by the 4 hits and 2 walks he allowed.
"4 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter, as long as it was a shutout."
Up to now Piatt has recorded a record of 10-8. In 19 starts he has fanned 48 batters in 160 innings with a 2.64 ERA.
