Bender Gets WL Rookie of Month Honors Tuesday, September 1st , 1903 Charles Bender pinned down the Western League Rookie of the Month award earlier today. The Chicago hurler went 4-2 in August, posting an ERA of 1.83 with 19 strikeouts in 54 innings. Batters hit him at a .202 rate over the period. The 19-year-old will certainly have a bright future in baseball, if he can maintain numbers like this. His record for the year is 26-9 in 35 starts and Bender has a 1.47 ERA. |
