Hits Galore: Santamaría Drills 5 Hits
|
After his 5-hit effort at Parque de la Libertad was tarnished by Monterrey's 10-6 loss to the Guanajuato Libertadores, first baseman Fernando Santamaría told BNN beat writers it was "a missed opportunity for a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "I would have been happy to stop there if it meant we got a win."
He didn't get the win, but the 16-year-old had a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Libertadores.
"His swing is getting there," said Cerveceros skipper Carmelo Torres after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Fernando did that to perfection and we wasted it."
Fernando Santamaría singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and doubled in the 9th.
So far this year in 113 games, Santamaría is hitting .347 with no home runs, 70 RBIs and 56 runs scored.
