A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Hidalgo Cornicos and Merida Trovadores.

The Hidalgo Cornicos topped the Merida Trovadores, 9-6, at Jardines de Pachuca. Hidalgo catcher Isidro Mendoza was a spark plug for the offense. He was 1-2 with a double and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Cástor Mendoza got the win, improving to 14-11. He held the Trovadores to 6 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 5. Luis Santillán picked up the save for Hidalgo, his 3rd of the year.

Mendoza contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing double, for Hidalgo in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Mendoza took a changeup from Luis Rentería and stroked the double to right. His 19th double of the season allowed the Cornicos to leap in front, 3-1.

"Some wins are easy and some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," Mendoza told the Hidalgo Times.

Today's win puts Hidalgo at 66-49, while Merida falls to 49-66.
