Both teams had their chances, but the Tijuana Matadores eventually prevailed.

The Tijuana Matadores beat the Culiacan Galanes, 2-1, at Estadio de Tijuana. Starting pitcher Ernesto Avina was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Avina, who is tied for 4th in the LN in wins with 6, went the distance for Tijuana. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits.

The Matadores got a big at-bat from shortstop Ismael Álvarez. For the game, Álvarez went 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Tijuana a 2-1 lead.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Culiacan skipper Luis Cruz, "and it cost us."

The 7th-place Matadores lifted their record to 17-18.
