Extra-Inning Walk-Off Win for Guajiros
|
For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.
The Pinar del Rio Guajiros picked up a win at El Campo de los Guajiros, dropping the Matanzas Henequeneros, 5-4, in 10 innings. Juan Barraza, who is tied for 9th in the TOCC in saves with 1, was the difference-maker. Matías Alberti, who finished 5th in the TOCC in wins with 18 in 1903, was the winner in relief. His record is now 4-7. The losing pitcher was Hestio Martínez.
The Guajiros got a clutch hit from catcher Mateo Portillo. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Guajiros.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Portillo said after the game.
Pinar del Rio is in first place in the Torneo Occidental Artemisa with a record of 32-27.
