Solons Fall Short, 2-1, at Cincinnati
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Cincinnati Reds and the Columbus Solons, John Shaffer, who is tied for 10th in the CL in complete games with 23, proved to be the difference. The Cincinnati right-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Reds win. Cincinnati is 4th in the Central League with a record of 64-60.
The Solons had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Reds going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the slugging first baseman Billy Earle came to the plate. Earle hit a solo home run on a 0-1 fastball from Columbus hurler Effie Norton. It was Earle's 7th home run of the year.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Earle said after the game.
