Michoacan Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
When the stakes were high, Rodrigo Martínez raised his game to match.

The left-handed Martínez turned in a stellar performance in Game 2 of the Serie Eliminatoria, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Michoacan Calaveras to victory. He allowed 3 hits and struck out 6. The win gave Michoacan a 2-0 lead over the Campeche Corsarios in the best-of-7 series.

Martínez was effective against the Corsarios, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The left-hander limited Campeche to just 1 run on 3 hits over 9 innings.

"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Martínez said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."

Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday at Campo Municipal de Morelia in Morelia.
