Phillies Upend Beaneaters, 6-3
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Boston Beaneaters, 6-3. Philadelphia pitcher and Tucson, Arizona, native Brent Mattern led the way. At 62-47, the Phillies have a slim two-game lead in the Eastern League.

Philadelphia used a well-timed hit by Tuck Turner to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Phillies ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"I'm just trying to make sure I'm focused for each and every pitch," said Mattern.
