Kansas City Loss Tarnishes Fine Game by Duffy
The Chicago Orphans overcame a pretty good performance by Kansas City first baseman Hugh Duffy, beating the Scouts, 8-7, at Kansas City Stadium. Duffy went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5. Toad Ramsey earned the save for Chicago, his 3rd. The losses continue to add up for Kansas City, having now dropped 8 straight.

An inflection point occurred with one out in the top of the second. That's when Orphans pitcher Charles Bender hit a fastball from Jack Taylor for a 2-run single. Just like that, Chicago was up, 3-2.

"Good pitching stops good hitting," said Bender. "And vice-versa."
