Scouts Drop Orphans, 2-1
|
Henry Schmidt pitched a gem to lead Kansas City to victory over the Chicago Orphans, 2-1. Schmidt, now 9-10, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Kansas City, at 36-44, occupies 4th place in the Western League.
With runs few and far between, the Scouts had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Kansas City came in the top of the second inning, when 31-year old shortstop Yale Murphy delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off George Van Haltren and made the score 2-0, Scouts. Murphy was 1-5.
"Henry was aggressive right out of the chute," said Kansas City manager Jack Manning.
