Boston Held Hitless by Corbett
|
Excitement reigned at South End Grounds 1894-1915 as Washington Senators hurler Joe Corbett tossed a baseball rarity -- a no-hitter.
After defeating the Boston Beaneaters, 4-0, he was swamped by reporters in the clubhouse for postgame comments.
"I'm just glad to be here," Corbett said. "Today I just went right at the Beaneaters as hard as I could, as long as I could."
Corbett, who finished 3rd in the EL in wins with 21 in 1904, chalked up 5 strikeouts and allowed 1 walk in his superb performance.
"I don't think they could have stopped him with a howitzer today," said Washington manager Pony Sager.
This season in 14 starts, Joe Corbett has a record of 8-6 with 81 strikeouts in 121 innings and a 2.60 ERA.
