Senators Take Nail-Biter Over Beaneaters
|
The Washington Senators managed to get by the Boston Beaneaters, 5-4, in 10 innings at Boundary Field. Washington pitcher Joe Corbett set himself apart with his performance. The victory gives the Senators a record of 17-16.
Up to bat in the bottom of the tenth, Doc Casey wanted to seize the moment and deliver a clutch hit. Boston pitcher Frank Groves had other ideas. He wanted to end the Washington rally. What happened next? With two outs, Casey hit a run-scoring single -- and the Senators erupted in celebration.
"The game of baseball will test you," said Pony Sager, the Washington skipper. "This one tested us."
