Fans watched the Matanzas Henequeneros and the Pinar del Rio Guajiros fight to the finish.

The Matanzas Henequeneros knocked off the Pinar del Rio Guajiros, 4-3, in Torneo Occidental action at El Campo de los Guajiros. Matanzas pitcher and San Juan, Puerto Rico, native Oscar Gutiérrez had an outstanding performance. The winner was Gutiérrez. He threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Gedeón Rubio. Hestio Martínez earned his 8th save in 11 chances.

Matanzas used the timely hitting of Demóstenes Amador to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Henequeneros on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"You need to show up when your number's called," said Amador.

The Henequeneros are now 59-64.
