The Santiago de Cuba Soneros took Holguin pitcher Afrodisio Alcalá's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Recinto Deportivo de Holguin. The final score had Santiago de Cuba getting past the Pericos, 3-2. Alcalá went 9 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 1. Santiago de Cuba leads the Torneo Oriental Santiago de Cuba by 4 games.
The Soneros beat the Pericos in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Propercio Mena produced in the top of the eighth. Batting against Afrodisio Alcalá, Mena gave his team the lead, 3-2, when he hit a run-scoring single.
