The Matanzas Henequeneros used a top-flight performance from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Juan Valdez to beat the Habana Leones, 2-1, in 11 innings. The third-place Henequeneros are now 47-64, the Leones 71-39.

The game-ending blow was delivered by Jorge Sánchez in the bottom of the 11th. That's when he hit a run-scoring double off 33-year old right-handed pitcher Bill Allan to win it for Matanzas and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.

"Every game matters," said Matanzas manager Matthis Rey. "I'm really amplifying that message."
