Soggy conditions did not keep Habana and Santa Clara from playing their scheduled game.
The Habana Leones had to overcome a fine effort from Santa Clara pitcher Ángel González to win, 3-1, at Parque de los Leones. González went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. Habana reliever Atanasio Balbuena snagged the win, upping his record to 3-2. Ángel González shouldered the loss.
Plinio Reyes had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the eighth. The Habana third baseman came through with a run-scoring single to put Habana in front, 2-1.
"Winning breeds more winning, I guess," said Reyes.
By defeating Santa Clara, the first-place Leones improved to 62-48.
