Almost There: Chicago On Cusp of WS Triumph After 12-4 Win
The Chicago Orphans moved to within one game of the Round 3, downing the visiting Philadelphia Phillies at West Side Grounds 1894-1915 by a score of 12-4. Orphans pitcher Walter Thornton did some major damage. He threw 9.0 innings of 7-hit ball. The win gives the Orphans a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 World Series.

The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fourth when Thornton hit a run-scoring single. It thrust the Orphans into the lead, 5-4.

"This kind of win will certainly make our fans happy," Thornton told the Chicago Chronicle.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at West Side Grounds 1894-1915 in Chicago.
