Hellfire Need Extra Frames to Get Past Gas
The Medicine Hat Hellfire had to overcome a big game from Vancouver second baseman Guillermo Martínez to leave Gas Field with a victory. And they did, winning, 6-5, in 10 innings. Martínez went 3-5 with a triple and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. John Barthold earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. His record is now 4-1. The Hellfire sit in 4th place in the Western League with a record of 48-68.

Tomás Acevedo provided some late-game heroics for Medicine Hat. In the top of the tenth inning, he hit a run-scoring single. It came on a 0-2 cutter from Fructuoso Rivera and propelled Medicine Hat to a 6-5 lead.

"A great game, a great day," said Acevedo about the win. "I can't complain."
