The Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Senators completed their game despite the inclement weather.

A good performance from catcher Joe Sugden helped the Pittsburgh Pirates defeat the Washington Senators, 8-6. Sugden was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Pirates. Andy Coakley was the winner. Over 8.2 innings, he yielded 6 runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Pirates grabbed the lead when Sugden hit his 3rd double of the season. The 2-run double off Scott Stratton made it 5-4, Pittsburgh.

"Our approach was just to try to see something over the plate and be aggressive," Sugden told the Pittsburgh Bulletin.

The win takes Pittsburgh to 7-3.
