Senators Prevail, 6-5, in 12 Innings
Pittsburgh got a terrific performance from pitcher Perry Werden, but it wasn't enough to beat the Washington Senators. Washington won the Boundary Field contest, 6-5. Werden threw 9.1 innings of 8-hit ball for the losing team. Washington reliever Ed Mars was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Andy Coakley. Pittsburgh, with the loss, is 5-3.

The Senators procured the win, in large part because of shortstop Kip Selbach. In the bottom of the 12th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring double.

"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Selbach told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
