Cantú Tames Hellfire, 6-1
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Kelowna Grizzlies and Medicine Hat Hellfire.
The Kelowna Grizzlies topped the Medicine Hat Hellfire, 6-1, in Western League action at Hellfire Park. The standout performance belonged to Kelowna pitcher and San Juan, Puerto Rico, native Eneas Cantú. The first-place Grizzlies improved to 55-40.
Cantú, who has sometimes raised the ire of coaches and teammates with his famously lackadaisical work ethic, turned in a spirited effort. The hurler struck out 3 in 9 innings and gave up 1 run.
Cantú, who is tied for 2nd in the WL with a 1.81 ERA, moves to 6-3 on the year with 30 strikeouts.
In comments to the Kelowna Daily News, Cantú admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
