1998 was an outstanding year for Louisville right fielder Gustavo Hernandez and it was capped off today by the announcement that he is the winner of the American Association Most Valuable Player Award.

This season Hernandez compiled a .417 batting average and a .470 on-base percentage. In 96 games he delivered 149 hits, including 24 doubles, 1 triple and 40 home runs. He finished the year with 104 RBIs and 89 runs scored.

He received 8 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Randy Ruiz of the Buffalo Bisons finished second in voting, while Eric Chavez of the Buffalo Bisons finished third.

The votes are in for the 1998 American Association Pitcher of the Year Award. It has been bestowed on Tom Mott of the Louisville Redbirds.
